let's get it started

today was my first "long" run, accompanied by menzies' ipod shuffle music selection. =) i almost got run over by some girl who was texting while driving (grr...), but other than that, all went well. even the weather cooperated to provide a nice cool morning mist. =)

my route:

i've been contemplating using the "run-walk" method but i need to figure out how to incorporate the walking breaks in a way that doesn't allow me to use it as a crutch. time to break out the old sports watch, perhaps?

looking for some upbeat running music...

My friend Julia shared two of her mixes with me that she put together for the Disneyland marathon. Want me to send them to you? :) She's got them compiled as podcasts.

Awesome good job! You can always do the jog/walk so it's not like you are 100% walking - making it easier to ramp up again. =)

YES! lisa, that would be awesome if you could send along her mixes! thanks!! =D

thanks T! yes, i'm nervous about ramping up... the jog/walk is very likely to happen whether planned or not. ;)

I've done the run walk method before for the half marathon that I had to stop training for partway through the season. Its great for ramping back up. Run 3 min, walk 1 min - be disciplined about it - its easy to think in the beginning that you can run for "just a little longer" and then its easy to think later that you want to walk for "just a little longer :)" but if you stick with it by a certain mileage point you won't even want to walk anymore.
