travels and photos (picasa update)

yaaay i finally uploaded my pictures onto picasa! links to albums below:

2008.10 - Michigan
Esty, Jess and I visited Tanya in Ann Arbor and spent several days eating, chatting, and just enjoying the glorious autumn scenery. Highlights included getting freshly made donuts and cider at Plymouth Orchards, touring U Mich in all its fall splendor, crossing the border into Canada, and having awesome Greek food in Detroit! It was so nice to see Tanya in her college-town environment, especially since I never got the chance to visit her during college. =)

2009.01-04 - Miscellaneous Winter and Spring
This is a collection of images from several events that basically occupied the first few months of 2009, including shopping for wedding venues and dresses, celebrating Menzies' and my 5th anniversary with yummy meals, celebrating my 27th birthday, and visiting UW in Seattle and UT Austin with Ger. =) Busy times, but also super fun and actually pretty productive. =)

2009.05 - Vegas
Girls' trip to Vegas for Jen A's 30th! We stayed at the Venetian and partied at XS in the Wynn. Highlights included gambling at the sports bar (Mine that Bird!) and at the craps table. =D Lows included getting lost from the group and the morning after...uggg...it will be a long time before I'll be ready for another trip to Vegas. At least I got some nice pictures out of it.

2009.05 - Yosemite

Our Memorial Weekend trip to Yosemite was awesome! We stayed at Housekeeping Camp in Yosemite Valley and had campfire deliciousness while still getting to sleep on beds and take daily showers. =D The highlight was definitely the Half Dome hike with the Mist Trail waterfalls flowing in full force! Nothing quite compares to the feeling at the top of Half Dome, although my knees paid dearly for it on the way down. We also did the Yosemite Falls hike the next day and caught some more gorgeous waterfall views. So yes, even though everything came back smelling like campfire, it was totally worth it. =)

2009.06 - Toronto
In early June, Menzies and I took our international trip of the year to Toronto! =) We stayed in the University of Toronto dorms and tromped our way around town for 5 days, including taking a day trip to Niagara Falls, exploring St Lawrence and Kensington Markets, and capping off the trip with a 10-course molecular gastro-normous meal at Colborne Lane. Toronto is one of those funny cities that doesn't have much tourist cred but has such a diverse population with so many unique neighborhoods that it seems like it would be a really fun place to live. =)

-------------------------------------------------
That's all for now! Wow I really took a lot of trips during May and June. Coming up in the summer months: not too much! I've been settling into a routine of training for the NYC marathon and trying to make progress in lab. I should be sticking around San Diego for the second half of 2009, with short jaunts out to Austin (to visit Ger) and to NY (to run 26.2)!

Happy 4th of July! =D

Happy Fourth weekend! :)

Erik and I really need to travel more! Shra and Devin just got back from Peru, and they showed us all their pics... WOW. They did a crazy hiking tour up to Machu Picchu and it looked so beautiful (and exhausting!).

We were actually thinking of going to Toronto sometime this year or next -- I really want to go to their art museum because the architecture looks so amazing. We're thinking of combining that with a trip to Prince Edward Island, even though they're not really close to each other. I'm on an LM Montgomery kick. ;)

Hope things are going well with you!!!

Oh, and guess what? Phyllis is engaged... and so is Shra!!!!!!!!

SHRA's ENGAGED??!! aaaaaaaaaaa exciting!! did it happen at the top of machu piccu?? heheee i would LOVE to do that hike someday...

i would definitely recommend toronto for you and erik!! i think you would really love it there, particularly the st lawrence market and kensington markets which have tons of yummy food and lots of quirky vintage treasures. =D not to mention the harry potter-esque architecture! the royal ontario museum (ROM) is supposed to be quite good as well, although we never made it inside. the U of T dorms where we stayed were right across the street from the ROM and right next to the subway stop. let me know if you want any recommendations or a lonely planet guide to toronto!
